A Piece of My Heart was all started when I received my first vinyl cutting machine many years ago. It was just something I wanted for a craft. It was my dream to have one and one day my dream came true.
I made some window decals and some shirts for family and myself and of course I was so excited to share with my social media what I had just created. All my Facebook friends loved them and started asking for some for themselves and that is when it all started. The name was named what it is because this business is truly a part of my heart.
I never imagined it would go as far as it has for all these years. Of course, I now have better and more equipment and offer a lot more than I did back then. I at the time was not a single mama but did become one a little after and I will say the support from all my customers has been phenomenal that has allowed me to stay home with my children who many have special needs. Being a single mama of 5 has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, but I am doing it! One reason my favorite quote is "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have".
After I became a single mama, I didn't think at the time I could make it on my own with just this business alone. So, I ventured out and enrolled myself in college as an adult. It was scary, but I knew I had to do something. I was able to enroll in online classes thank goodness. Which allowed me to continue to be with my kids at the same time as I worked and did classes. I completed my classes with passing grades and my children got to see their grown adult mama walk across that stage and graduate college. Something I wish I would have done when I was young.
I soon realized that this boutique industry is where I was supposed to be, it is what I enjoy and love to do. I love to create and be crafty. So, here I was back at making T-shirts and things I enjoyed.
I am still going strong in this industry as a single mama household. I could not do it without the support from my customers, family and friends.
When you purchase from a small business, just know that you are helping families buy their child a pair of shoes, you are helping a single parent keep their utilities on, Etc. It means the world to us small business owners.
